In developing advanced spark erosion machining systems there is an increasing demand for scaling-up within a short period a functional principle that meets the following criteria:
· Operational functionality throughout the specified working range;
· Optimal matching and adaptation of all part systems (in electrical and design terms);
· Compliance with regulations relating to electromagnetic compatibility;
· Keeping within the maximum permissible loads of components and modules. This large number of case considerations can no longer be investigated experimentally for cost and time reasons. Instead, only reliable simulations on the basis of adequate modelling are practical. The presented approach using equivalent circuit diagrams offers a potential possibility of fast combinations of electronic circuits and line sections. Problems incurred in improving such simulations still exist in a number of design part systems (e.g. contact assemblies) and the actual material removal process (discharge process).
